Many Christians struggle with the decision to see a psychologist or psychiatrist as the key to overcoming mental illness. Christian psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors are numerous, and Christians are seeking their advice regularly, most often for depression and anxiety. Part of the difficulty is that there are wide varieties of psychological disorders, some of which are emotional and some of which are physical, but all of which have a spiritual component. A sinful lifestyle can be one cause of depression or anxiety. In the case of a true believer in Christ, the person needs to realize that God is waiting for him to confess his sins, repent of them, and return to Him. Doing so will result in the spiritual, mental, and emotional healing a person seeks. Demonic influence is another potential cause of mental illness (2 Corinthians 4:4). A Christian can be influenced and/or oppressed by demons to the point of mental illness. It is important to remember, though, that Christians cannot be possessed by demons or influenced beyond a bearable amount of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). This is because believers already possess the Spirit of God (Romans 8:9-11), and the Holy Spirit will not share His “residence” with demons. Another thing people often do not take into account is that God has allowed mankind to invent and develop many different kinds of medicines for healing. If a person has a true mental illness caused by hormonal or chemical imbalances in the brain, medication may be necessary. It is no different from going to a doctor to get medicine for an injury or physical illness. Similarly, God has blessed some Christian counselors and psychologists with supernatural insight, the ability to accurately evaluate a person and get to the true root of the problem. To ignore such giftedness seems unwise. Whether or not to seek help from a Christian psychologist is a personal decision. It is a matter of the conscience because the Bible does not specifically address the issue. Here are some things to consider: Does my behavior affect others, especially my family? Is my illness causing me to be disobedient to God and refusing to allow the Holy Spirit to work through me? Is my witness for Christ suffering because of this disability? If a person knows he/she is sick, but refuses to get help for selfish reasons, that is sinful. If it is strongly against a person's belief system to seek psychiatric care, and he/she has spent time in prayer and meditation, he/she should discuss any alternatives with his/her doctor and pastor/minister. It is not sinful to see a psychiatrist. Doing so does not show lack of faith in God, although we should always go to God first for healing and direction. He wants to be in charge of every part of our lives, and we should feel free to take our problems to Him in prayer for every situation and every circumstance. God often uses Christian psychologists and therapists to bring healing to His children. Seeing a trained Christian counselor or psychiatrist, however, is definitely preferable to a secular therapist who will give advice from a worldly viewpoint instead of a biblical one. Let David's words encourage us: “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God...” (Psalm 40:2-3, NLT).

You need psychiatric care. Heaping on yet another delusion is not going to help you.

Christianity could help you to suffer much more if this is what you are looking at. If you just want to get over with everything, just pick Islam. Then, you'll be done.

go to church crazy lady

JACK - 2010-07-25 19:11:27
Religion is false, man made drivel and if you ever hear God or Jesus you should assume it is part of your illness.

LiT - 2010-07-25 19:11:28
First of all, don't let those evil atheists tell you that you've got these problems, they're just labels, you don't have any problems, and don't you dare let them medicate you with their antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs. Go to church, reach out to God, become a Christian, my daughter.

No gods or devils exist outside of a brainwashed mind .

Just like I said when people get illness or are tormented thats when they turn to God. That's so selfish. But ill still help you. You should atend church and pray to God.

nkowalsky - 2010-07-25 19:12:35
Pray to God for him to take those voices away in the name of Jesus. Admit that you are a sinner, ask God to forgive you and admit that you need Jesus to save you. Start studying with other Christians and don't let go of God. Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Okay let me understand......you suffer from psychotic disorder that allows you to hear voices and you want to hear god talk to you instead?Hmmmmm........

Danny K - 2010-07-25 19:13:37
If you're suffering from mental disorders, depending on which one, he may seem to be speaking to you. If so, you need to see a psychiatrist. Tell them about your experiences, and they may put you on some drugs that should help.

Lets start with Salvation and Jesus will come into your heart as you read this prayer Out Loud and mean it. I want you to join me now in praying this prayer for salvation. Don’t just read it; make a conscious effort to speak these words from the very depths of your being. When you finish this prayer, you will be born gain: Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, I present myself to You. I pray and ask Jesus to be Lord over my life. I believe it in my heart, so I say it with my mouth: “Jesus has been raised from the dead.” This moment, I make Him the Lord over my life. Jesus, come into my heart. I believe this moment that I am saved, I say it now: “I am reborn. I am a Christian. I am a child of Almighty God.” Now, thank God for making you His child. Colossians 1:12 says, “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light.” You have just been made a partaker of an inheritance from God. You have just inherited the kingdom of God! Everyone is a target of Satan's once you become born again and love Jesus. Has no one ever told you there is a war going on inside you? Your flesh and the devil side with each other and your spirit man is in the middle trying to keep you balanced. The mind is where the Devil and his demons attack you and will not give you a chance. But the good news is that Jesus gave us all authority over the devil and we can bind him and rebuke him and tell him to go from our thoughts. The devil drops into your mind thoughts that only sound like they are yours so that you will accept them as yours. He then watches to see if you believe him.The devil drops into your mind thoughts that only sound like they are yours so that you will accept them as yours. He then watches to see if you believe him. He will say things like I hate Jesus. Or I am so mad at that person that said those things to me. I hate them. They are just trying to make trouble with me. Or they all hate me. Or Jesus is cramping your style you do not have to do what He says. when ever you get thoughts like that do not roll them around in your mind but right then decide to take them captive by casting then out of your thoughts out loud so the devil can hear you and say this: You may have to say it over and over again to get him to finally back down but it is worth it to get rid of the lies. Remember this is spiritual warfare and you will need to quote the Word of God and plead the blood of Jesus around yourself daily. Presenting yourself as a living sacrifice unto Jesus. He loves you. He cares about you. Rev. 3:20 says They overcame him( the devil) with the Name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus and the Word of God and they loved not their lives unto death. Speak Faith scriptures and memorize as many as you can so you are ready for battle. http://www.ourlittleplace.com/trust.html

The Word of God tells us to Call upon the Name of the Lord and you can be saved. You are a very sensitive person that has a sensitivity to the spirit realm. And the devil knows that and that you do not understand who you are. He likes to torture you, to the point of death.. Well Becky you are a Spirit that has Soul/mind that is Will, emotions, feelings, Etc. and you are living right now in a Earth suited called a Body. the Temple of God. God wants you to see you need Jesus to come into your Life and you must ask Him to do this. To take away and Sin and unbelief that you have and allow Jesus to become the one to run and rule your life. Other wise you have no power over the Devil. St. Johns Gospel Chapter 10:10 I Jesus am Come that they might have life and have it more Abundantly Jesus wants to Give you a new Heart and mind and the power to Destroy the powers of Hell. With Jesus in your Heart you will have more power in your little pinky finger then all the demons of hell. When you speak in Jesus name and tell the Devils to Shut up and leave, they will leave, for they know the power and voice of one Who knows Jesus. the Bible Book of James 4:7 Resist the Devil and He will flee from you. Then take the Home or place you live and put on Good Christian Music, Hymns and the such and listen to them. you can ever hear them on Line.. so type in some Hymn type music and listen to that. God loves you and so do we. You can be free..Jesus will give you the Power to be free. Call 1-888-NEEDHIM and they will talk to you 24/7 and will help you to pray and ask Jesus into your life and then seek out a Good Bible Church..

yeah, ask an imaginary man in the sky for help, that's a solution to mental illness....*rolls eyes*....Do you people even hear yourselves telling this poor person to ask an imaginary source for help with voices? Seriously? "Look to the accepted made up voice to help you with voices that we Christians think are abnormal"...give me a break. Make an appointment with a Dr. Doctor's are real, they have a much better chance of being able to help you.

The christians on here have given you great advice to trust and accept Jesus as your savior. Please don't make the same mistake as the atheists do (which is unbelief). Christ changes lives, so he must exist. True christian testimonies are indisputable proof that he is real and has power! edit: Persephone, good, open-minded post.

Oh, dear. I'm very sorry. If you aren't already, you should be consulting with a psychiatrist and/or other mental health professional. Medication isn't the right choice for everybody, but take it from me because I know firsthand: they do work. And it sounds like you would benefit greatly. That's probably what should be your chief concern at the moment. Anyways, I am personally atheist, but I'm sure that there are plenty of Bible passages you could read that would bring you comfort -- I can't think of any offhand, but I'm sure someone here will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. You could try going to church; many people say that they feel a sense of peace while in church or whilst praying. If you're not happy, putting your faith in a god could help you to feel happier -- not because most of 'em are real or anything; it's purely psychological but it works wonders for some people nevertheless. The god you're thinking of doesn't speak directly to people per se; it's something that comes from within, and if calling that inner voice "God" makes it work better, than that's totally fine. I really recommend you try meditation or something similar for relaxation, that will help you out a lot as well. I wish the best to you! <3

Jesus I suspect has helped my self esteem and restored some faith in humans, gave me some things to think about. Jesus will help you with what ever you ask him and its up to him if you get it or not(if he thinks you should have it he will give it, if not he will give you something even better). The bible will tell you what you gotta do and you just do it..kinda like rules, laws. (although I believe in the power of word, if you put something out there, you can make it happen..like a prayer.. Some thoughts that made me sick and delusional were affirmed in the bible though ideas and parabolas, they helped me see things differently, connectedly, and also from another perspective..that's even shared(there's a lack of that in my life:P; Although im not converting to christian or have a religion. I was sheltered while growing up.. learning about this stuff is nuuuuts :P..still searching for my complete conscious , I find that god just verifies though.. no real questions are answered. Im not that far into the bible neither..we will see. mMybe he could help you along those lines?? The Bible im reading now is called "Gods' Word to the Nations; the first literal translation that's also easy to read; New testament"

The bible speaks of people that are tormented by demons, which I believe still occurs today. The first thing is to accept Jesus Christ into your heart to take control of your life and to save you. Ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins and ask that Jesus would come into your heart. The Holy Spirit will come to inhabit your soul upon accepting Jesus in your heart. The demons can manifest in the many forms including voices in your head simply do not follow what they say and do not feel compelled to follow through on your compulsion. Every time you feel the need to do something they say pray to the Lord and ask him to remove the desire to do "such and such". You can speak to God like you would a good friend. There is no right or wrong way to pray. If you do fall into sin ask God for repentance. Jesus performed many miracles while on Earth, and through the Holy Spirit his disciples were also given power to perform the same miracles in his name. Begin to read the Bible and memorize scriptures that are meaningful to you. Find a Bible believing church, where you can be mentored and nurtured in your walk with the Lord. Hearing God's Voice. Read Mark Virkler's Book "How to Hear God's Voice" The Lord many time speaks through scripture verses, so as you begin to read and memorize scripture he will speak to you through scripture. Look up Deliverance ministries. They are ministries that deliver people from demons. Here is a series of podcast from Jimmy Low, a deliverance minister. http://www.john4-35.org/Harvest1/jimmy-and-lynda-low/ Here is a testimony of an individual that was delivered from demons: http://www.christian-faith.com/forjesus/amazing-deliverance-from-demons-of-violence-hatred-and-revenge "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever bleivers in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17

Firstly I commend you for your queries, because Jesus can change your life if you receive him. GOD IS REAL. JESUS IS REAL. The voices you hear in your head should be proof to you that there exists things that can't be explained through science alone. If you believe this then pray to Jesus to protect you from evil. Soften your heart and get rid of your cynicism and have faith in Jesus. Give yourself to Jesus and let him become your saviour. Ask Jesus to forgive all your sins and start having fellowship with him. Read the bible earnestly and regularly, starting from the beginning of the New Testament onwards. Romans 1:16-17 Paul writes "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."" Hebrews 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." I have prayed on your behalf and I hope to see you get better. Please don't ignore this. God bless. May Jesus protect you from evil.
